BCWipe Total Wipeout 5.4.00 – Manual Update Required

Modified on Thu, 11 Dec at 5:01 AM

Overview

Some installations of BCWipe Total Wipeout version 5.3.5 and earlier may require a manual update instead of using the automatic update mechanism.

This behavior is expected and related to a change in our code-signing certificate that occurred with the release of version 5.4.00. The built-in updater in older installations is configured to validate updates using the previous digital signature. Because the certificate has since been replaced, the automatic updater may report an error during verification (e.g., “File signature is invalid”).

There is no security risk: the downloaded file is valid and correctly signed by Jetico. The issue affects only the automatic validation logic in older builds.

Why This Happens

  • Version 5.3.5 was released over a year ago.
  • Since that time, Jetico has updated its official code-signing certificate.
  • The auto-updater inside older installations is still configured to trust the previous certificate.
  • As a result, some systems may show a signature validation error when attempting to update automatically.

You can still verify that the downloaded file is authentic by checking its Digital Signatures tab in Windows Properties. It will show a valid signature issued to Jetico.

Solution

To update to the latest version, please install the update manually. Follow the steps below:

1. Download the installer from the following link: https://jetico.com/bcwipe_total_wipeout.exe

2. Run the downloaded file.

3. When Windows requests administrator approval, click Yes to continue.

4. The installer will automatically detect your existing installation of BCWipe Total Wipeout and proceed with an in-place upgrade.5.Continue through the installation wizard by clicking Next → Next → Next.

Click Finish and allow the installer to complete the upgrade.

The update is now complete.
