"Invalid encryption algorithm” error on macOS 27 Golden Gate

1) BestCrypt support for macOS ended with version 15 (Sequoia), and the product has been moved to the free tier.

    The last macOS version on which BestCrypt operation is confirmed is 26 (Tahoe).

2) Starting with macOS 27, any attempt to mount a *.jbc volume triggers the error described in the article title.

Some macOS users may have been unprepared for such developments,

 recommendations for them are provided below.

1) The first thing I would do is create a copy of the *.jbc file, although this depends on its size and the available free space on your disks.

3) A more complex but also more effective way to resolve the issue is to use virtualization.

    For macOS, three well-known approaches are available: ParallelsDesktop (paid) , VMWareFusion, VirtualBox.

    * The first two options are considered more resource-efficient (RAM and CPU), allow you to get a working Windows 11 instance        with a few clicks and some waiting time, which mainly depends on your internet speed.

    * VirtualBox provides far more fine-grained VM settings and is suited for power users. And you will need to install the OS         

       yourself, much like on a physical PC.

If you choose to go the virtualization route (I recommend it to everyone, not just BestCrypt users), you have two options for working with your *.jbc containers:

BestCrypt Traveller is a free utility with limited functionality, designed to ensure you do not lose access to data on a *.jbc container even if there is a delay in renewing the license for the main product. It is also useful when traveling, provided the license is activated on a desktop PC rather than a laptop.

BestCrypt Container Encryption (BCCE) - the main product with 21-days trial license.

4) As of 2026-09-28, BCCE for macOS is being prepared for release. It has been rebuilt from scratch by the same developer

    who created BestCrypt Explorer (see item 2). Keep an eye on the news at jetico.com.
