1) Starting from Windows 8, ability to view/restore shadow copies has been deleted from GUI ('Restore previous versions' command in right-click menu), but it still exists inside Windows. If System Restore is enabled (it is disabled by default), it creates Restore Points with Shadow Copies, and it is possible to recover the copy using simple utilities like System Restore Explorer or Shadow Explorer.

Refer to this webpages (for info about Windows 8 and Windows 10):

2) Restore Points are completely incompatible with Transparent Wiping. If it is enabled, all Resore Points will be deleted, and if Windows automatically creates a new Restore Point, it will be deleted by BCWipe.

3) If you run 'Wipe free space' command - you will be asked if you want to delete them. You can continue without deleting.

If you agree to delete, BCWipe will delete ALL Restore Points on the selected drive.

4) If you run 'Delete with wiping' command - you will be asked as well.

If you confirm deletion, BCWipe will delete only those Restore Points that contain shadow copies of the selected files.

5) If you run automatic wiping tasks using BCWipe Task Manager, the Restore Points will be deleted automatically before the task starts.

Unfortunately, Windows stores Shadow Copies of files inside Restore Points.

We are sorry, but that is how it works now, and BCWipe, as a data privacy software,  has to care about "shadow copies" and other possible security leaks.
