Is it safe to use Dynamic containers?

Modified on Tue, 9 Aug, 2022 at 11:21 AM

BestCrypt can create Dynamic containers on NTFS-formatted drives.

Other vendors warn users about the performance and security levels of Dynamic containers. They even state that the encrypted file system may get corrupted.

Dynamic (sparse-file-hosted) volumes are less secure because it is possible to tell which volume sectors are unused. Furthermore, if data is  written to a dynamic volume when there is not enough free space in its host file system, the

the encrypted file system may get corrupted.

The warning about performance and security levels is also true for BestCrypt.

Regarding possible corruption, Jetico implemented a clever solution.

BestCrypt features so-called Smart Free Space Monitoring – a Jetico innovation that indicates the actual amount of disk space available, warns of low disk space, and prevents system crashes and data loss by switching the container to read-only mode.
